"In This Place of Mercy"
"In this place of Mercy" is a unique new CD as the performer Avi Kunstler, is also the composer. Most Jewish Music today sounds similar as the same people arrange it most of the time. Avi breaks out this rut by not only composing and performing but also producing his own music. The quality shows. His songs will transport you to another time and place. Maybe the holy temple as he and his sons sing from their heart to your soul. This is only natural, as they are hashem's appointed keepers of the temple. (They are Cohanim-from the priestly tribe.)
Joseph Malovany
Great Bel-Canto Hebrew Arias
This CD is made up of some of Malovany's best work that was previously recorded on cassette. While the cassette was one of my favorite listening pleasures, the same can not be said of this CD. While the content is the same, the recording is horrendous. This is due to the fact that this CD is a direct copy of the tape with all the hiss and distortion. There was no remastering done whatsoever. Save your self a some money and buy the cassette.
Gershon Veroba
Turn it around.
Have you ever bought a record because of one song you heard on the radio? Well I did. Most of the songs on this CD are nice, but nothing outstanding except for S'u. I found that this CD is much like Mr. Veroba's previous work, pleasant to listen to but nothing noteworthy. Try to listen to each song on this CD before you buy it.
Joseph Malovany
The Prayer and the Bible.
This CD was previously named "Joseph Malovany The Famous Cantor. While the title is true, this name was a little ostentatious. Malovany is at his best on this CD. All the musical arrangements are well conceived. The sound quality is quiet good as this work was Malovany's only true digital recording. If you enjoy arias sung by a good tenor, this CD is "candy" for your ears.
THE DIASPORA YESHIVA BAND
Land of Our Fathers
Land of Our Fathers, was re-released on May 14, 1998 Lag B'Omer. The new album is completely digitally re-mastered. It sounds like they are playing live in your living room. Many songs have stereo separation that is almost like "Dolby Surround Sound". This is definitely one the best CDs to hit the Jewish market in a long time. There is Hard Rock, Blue Grass, a bit of Klezmer and of course some country sound on this recording . Even if you have the original cassette which came out in 1981, you should check out this CD!
Ohel Concert 5758 CD
The CD is comprised of Avrohom Fried, Mordechai Ben Dovid and Ira Heller. Most of the music sounds the same. This is not surprising as most of their music is composed by the same people. The only 2 songs I liked are sung by MBD. Ein Od Milvado and Chevron. It would still be a mitzvah to buy this CD set because your money goes to support Ohel; a children's home.
